Molly 02

©The Daily O'Collegian

This comic was originally published January 15th 2009.

It features Molly's best friend Steve, a nerdy science major who's got his career path more figured out than Molly. After Molly, Steve is one of the primary characters, so he'll be showing up a lot.

Along with this comic, the O'Colly featured an interview with me as a way to promote readership (and let people know it was even there).

Make 'em laugh
by Hayes Martin

For graphic design junior Emily McLain, the lack of a comic strip in the Daily O'Collegian was more than a problem. It was an opportunity.
"A lot of poeple grow up reading comics in the newspaper so they're kind of a staple of newspapers," McLain said.

She decided to take the lack of a comic strip into her own hands, marching into the newsroom to present her portfolio last week.

"I've always wanted to see a comic in O'Colly and I wanted to do a comic strip," McLain said.

"Molly" is about a girl who's trying to find her place in the world. The character is undeclared and hasn't discovered her calling in life, McLain said. McLain said she feels that a large number of students should be able to relate to Molly Blythe through her misadventures.

In the future, she said that she would like to include things that she thinks are important, like social issuess that involve the Stillwater Humane Society.
But McLain also has another goal.
"I just like making people laugh," she said.
McLain's comic strip "Molly" will run on Mondays and Fridays in the Features section of the Daily O'Collegian and can be found online at ocolly.com.
